Focus & Fixes – Oiliness
Away from dehydration and dryness, today we discuss oiliness.
Why am I so shiny?
Oily is a skin type. Your skin produces a lot of sebum, translating to shine all over your face.
Although certain products can encourage or minimise shine, there’s nothing you can apply to change your natural amount of oil secretion.
Daily routine focus
- Robust cleanser
- Twice daily
Foaming cleansers remove oil better than non-foaming ones. But, it’s important that they do not take away too much oil.
Cleanse twice daily to prevent excessive oil from accumulating on your skin.
Moisturise
Moisturisation might be the last thing on your mind, but you still need one to maintain your skin’s water content.
- Humectants
- Light-textured
Pick moisturisers low in oil content, but high in humectants, (e.g. glycerin, propanediol, amino acids, sodium hyaluronate) which draw water to the skin.
Light products do not contribute to any greasy feeling nor occlude skin, which is important as oily individuals are prone to congestion and blemishes.
Other tips
A light layer of powder containing silica or kaolin after your last skin care step helps with shine control and makeup longevity.
Oiliness might be a pain, but having abundant sebum also means aging well as fine lines and wrinkles get to you later. So embrace the shine, or some say, dewiness!
